Our story starts when M was about 8. At this point we did not know he had Aspergers and Tourettes. All we knew was that wherever he went, he was buulied, inside or outside of school. It was as though he had a neon flashing light saying, "I'm a victim bully me".

This bullying continued in various forms, including hitting, name calling, threats, embarrasing him, and. The unfortunate point is that with him having Aspergers, he couldn't foresee that if he went out with no adult guidance, he would be bullied again, and again.

Secondary school was going to be a turning point we hoped. We should have known better. The bullying began again almost immediately. The same kind of things were happening, but the psychological effects began to be serious with attempted suicide, and simulated suicide with his sisters Barbie dolls.

What is even worse is the schools reluctance to take any action. They were very quick with dealing with children who had behavioural problems, and were disruptive, perhaps threatining teachers. But bullies were ignored unless the situation became too serious.

In the end we had to move, but thankfully it has paid off. His new school is very supportive and protective.

The 'victim' mode will doubtfully ever go away, but with our support, hopefully things will turn out OK>
